Description

We've provided some example outlines for introduction and summary videos. These are just templates, and you can customise them to fit your specific module and teaching style. The most important thing is to create a script that is engaging, informative and helps learners to achieve the module objectives.

1. Introduction to module

Introduction

  • Welcome students to the course.
  • Give a brief introduction of who you are.
  • Hook the learners in! Give them a broad sense of what this course is going to cover.
  • Highlight the benefits of completing the course.
Key objectives

  • State the specific objectives for the module.
  • Then highlight week by week what you are going to cover. Tease out the most exciting parts.

Key concepts

  • Identify the key concepts that learners will need to understand in order to succeed in the course.
  • Provide clear and concise definitions of these concepts.
  • Use examples and illustrations to help learners understand the concept

Activities

  • Explain the key activities that the learners will experience in the module.
  • Include activities that allow learners to practice and apply what they have learned.

Assessment

  • Explain how learners will be assessed for this module (e.g. quiz, short essay, or other type of activity).
  • Explain how will they receive feedback for this module.
Conclusion

  • Summarise the key points.
  • Finish by highlighting what will be coming up in their first lecture.

2. Module summary

Introduction

  • Congratulate the learners on making it to the end of the module.
  • Express your enthusiasm for teaching the content and working with the students.

Review learning objectives

  • Briefly review the topics that you’ve covered – use visuals to reinforce this.
  • Concisely summarise the key takeaways from the topics that you have covered.
  • Relate the module content to real-world applications: help students to see how the module content is relevant to their own lives and careers. This will make the module more meaningful and engaging for them.

Closing remarks – end the video with a positive message

  • Thank the learners for their ideas, insights and attention.
  • Call to action! Encourage the students to stay engaged, participate actively, and enjoy the learning journey.

Additional tips

  • Use your personality and enthusiasm to connect with the viewer. Be sure to smile and speak with energy to connect with the learners.
  • Break down complex concepts into smaller, more manageable pieces.
  • Think to yourself: 'How can I make what I'm saying more visual?' – look for opportunities to engage the viewers visually.
  • Try and avoid jargon and break everything down into easy-to-understand segments.
